Technology Translation & Impact – A Special Visit to The Westmead Institute for Medical Research

Way In Network was delighted to visit the Westmead Institute for Medical Research (WIMR) and gain a closer insight into the groundbreaking research being carried out by the dedicated scientists and researchers at the Institute.

The visit provided our members with a unique opportunity to step inside the laboratories and discover the advanced technologies and innovative equipment used by researchers every day to better understand diseases and develop new approaches that can improve patient outcomes.

We were truly inspired by the passion, dedication and expertise of the WIMR team. Throughout the tour, our members engaged in meaningful conversations, asked many questions and gained a deeper appreciation of how scientific discoveries move from research concepts into real-world impact.

The morning concluded with a wonderful lunch, where members had the opportunity to connect with the WIMR team, exchange stories and learn more about the people behind the important work happening at the Institute.

Way In Network would like to extend our sincere appreciation to WIMR for their warm welcome, generosity and for sharing their knowledge and insights with us. It was an inspiring experience to witness the passion, people and science driving medical research forward, and we look forward to continuing to support and connect with organisations making a meaningful difference in our community.

As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting meaningful research and community impact, Way In Network is honoured to support WIMR’s current fundraising campaign to help acquire a new research equipment. This advanced equipment will provide researchers with enhanced capabilities to continue their important work, accelerate discoveries and contribute to better outcomes for patients. We sincerely hope to bring our community together to help WIMR achieve this fundraising goal and make a positive difference in the future of medical research.

Way In Network Women Empowerment Series – Hepatitis B: How we fight the world’s leading liver disease

Way In Network was delighted to host another inspiring event as part of our Women Empowerment Series — “Hepatitis B: How We Fight the World’s Leading Liver Disease”, held on 24 July 2026 at Diamond Territory.

The seminar brought together members of our community to raise awareness, share knowledge, and encourage meaningful conversations about hepatitis B, one of the world’s leading causes of liver disease. Through education and open discussion, we hope to empower individuals with a better understanding of prevention, early detection, treatment options, and the importance of ongoing health management.

We were honoured to welcome our distinguished guest speaker, Associate Professor Thomas Tu, Group Leader (Viral Hepatitis Pathogenesis) at the Storr Liver Centre, The Westmead Institute for Medical Research.

Associate Professor Tu shared his valuable expertise and insights into hepatitis B research, including the challenges in combating this global health issue and the progress being made through scientific discoveries and medical advancements. His presentation provided our attendees with a deeper understanding of hepatitis B and highlighted the importance of continued research, community awareness, and collaboration in the fight against liver disease.

Way In Network sincerely thanks Associate Professor Thomas Tu for his time, knowledge, and dedication in sharing this important message with our community. We also extend our appreciation to everyone who attended and contributed to the success of this meaningful event.

Following the successful seminar, the committee sisters gathered for a short meeting to discuss and exchange ideas on future Women Empowerment Series events. The team shared their thoughts on potential topics, community needs, and ways to continue creating meaningful opportunities for women to learn, connect, and grow.
